Aikman Ratings Commentary
Through Week 15
Week 15 was a week of change in leadership in all three categories of the Aikman Ratings.
Despite suffering their first loss of the year – and despite falling out of first in Aikman Offense, the Packers took over the top spot in the Aikman Combined. Their rating fell from 165.0 to 164.9 in the loss to the Chiefs, but the Ravens and Texans, who were ahead of Green Bay last week, suffered more precipitous drops.
In Aikman Offense, the Saints jumped nearly two points with their big day against the Vikings to move past Green Bay. It should be noted that the top three teams in this category – Saints, Packers and Patriots – have opened up a huge lead over the rest of the league.
The fourth spot is now occupied by a Panthers attack that has had a remarkable resurgence this year. Last year, Carolina checked in last at season’s end with a 57.6 mark. This year’s current rating is 28.8 points higher than that.
Defensively, the 49ers with their shutdown of the Steelers have taken over the top spot from the Ravens, whose reign at the top lasted just one week.
