AIKMAN COMMENTARY
Thru Week 14
After defeating Indianapolis, the Ravens slide ahead of the Texans for first place in the Aikman Combined Ratings through Week 14, with the unbeaten Packers close behind in third.
In a year where the top teams tend to be strong on one side of the ball or the other, the Texans are the only team in the top five on both sides of the ball.

On offense, the Packers and Saints continue to battle with Green Bay remaining just ahead. The 95.5 offensive rating of the Packers, if it holds up, would be the second best in Aikman history which dates to 1995. The record 99.0 of the 2007 Patriots looks as if it will hold up.
Currently, the second-best Aikman offensive rating belongs to the 2004 Colts at 94.4.

On defense, the Ravens and 49ers (both coached by Harbaughs) have separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
We do note that while the NFL’s method of ranking, which is yards only, places the Packers and Patriots at the bottom of the heap, the Aikman Ratings do show their defenses to be in the middle of the pack at 19th and 21st respectively. We believe this is a better reflection of the abilities that have produced a combined 23-3 record for those two squads.
